Blue Clue (2006) was the first work in what was to become The Walking Project. Designed as a one-hour performance for the Urban Art Festival CONSTRUCTOR06, it engaged both the gallery audience and members of the public as complicit partners in the making of the artwork.
The piece resembled a game in which the artist was betting on whether or not she would arrive at the gallery in the given time. Starting from the main city square she took a walk around the city of Skopje by asking passers-by dressed in the official festival colour, blue, to give her directions where to go. The audience in the gallery was able to follow the performance via a mobile phone that transmitted the artist’s interaction with the public and her description of locations. Each of them was also given a map to mark her route and thus provide a written documentation of the walk.
The piece was an investigation into time, chance, memory and uncertainty, emphasising the impact of encountering strangers on the street.
